Another earworm they play at the Peddlers Mall all the time. If it's gonna be stuck in my head, I'm gonna share that "joy" with you all. This one is dedicated to the customer who was walking up the aisle singing along at the same time that I was working, also singing along.
This one is a twofer treat as we get back into the Retro Y'all groove. I had a hard time picking which version of this song to feature, since there are two well known versions of it, both equally popular and both equally retro. In the end I decided to include them both.
That was Tanya Tucker. Now here's Helen Reddy.
I have to say that I prefer Tucker's version. I'm always attracted to good, old-fashioned twangy country, plus I love the harmonies and the gospel choir feel of the ending better. Although, that odd little dance step Reddy is doing is really cure, in an awkward sort of way.
Fun Facts:
My mother hated this song, for some reason. She had some kind of Helen Reddy's greatest hits LP and played "I am Woman" over and over (and over) again after she and my father split. She would always rush to the stereo to stop it before "Delta Dawn" could come on.
According to Wikipedia, this was almost released as single by Bette Midler, until Helen Reddy released it first.
Until I researched the song, I had no idea Helen Reddy was from Australia.

Make of it what you will...
This is the song that's been stuck in my head for the past few days.
Hopefully now it's stuck in yours. I like to share, especially at this time of year.
You're welcome.
ABBA Rules!
PS You can't get more retro than some of those outfits!

Getting it out of my system! Now!
Two weeks ago--seriously--I was eating lunch before work when this song came on the radio. It's been stuck in my head ever since. It's almost as bad as it was when the thing first came out. Let me afflict you too, so I won't feel so alone.
Back when the song came out, I was in the throes of my brief involvement with anime fandom and the Sailor Moon reference tickled me. (I'm still do like anime, but I have less time to follow series and such and certainly no time for organized fandom. Plus, I have a stack of unwatched DVD's to go through.) I still totally adore that show, even if--bit by bit--I'm selling off my memorabilia.
Back to the song, here's a parody version that kind of expresses how I've been feeling for the past two weeks. (I still catch myself humming and singing along when I'm dong other stuff.) There's a little bit of language to deal with in this clip.
Finally, here's an acoustic version that I like quite a bit. That link also includes the lyrics, if you need them once you start humming along.

Sometimes, for no explainable reason...
...I find myself with old Gatlin Brothers songs stuck in my head.
And now, I've stuck them in yours. Good luck!
Gotta love the harmonies, even if the repetition drives you crazy.
You're welcome.

And then there was the time Emmylou Harris sang an Irish folk song with a whole bunch a fabulous people
This really should have been my Saint Patrick's Day post, but I got hung up on the monkeys. Sorry about that. Anyway, the combination of Emmylou Harris, Dick Gaughan, The McGarrigle Sisters, and Rufus Wainwright on a classic Irish folk tune like "Wild Mountain Thyme" is pretty potent. Check it out.
You'll be humming that all day now, I bet. You can thank me for that later. There are far, far worse things to have stuck in your head.

Here, let me ruin the rest of the day for you...
Now, try getting that out of your head.
Don't hate me. Please?
I promise not to ever do it again.
And it could have been worse, you know.
It could have been this:
Ooops!
